Hey there, fellow sewing enthusiasts! It’s Luna here. Being enveloped by colorful threads every day feels like a dream. Just imagine having every shade at your fingertips, even that elusive salmon hue you once thought you’d never need! With my collection spanning 400-500 spools, ranging from sewing to embroidery, it’s a true spectrum of creativity. But, with such a vast collection, organization is key!
Although it’s commonly advised to keep threads in a dark, cool place, I adore having them within sight. That vibrant display sparks my creativity. So, my storage solutions are prominently wall-based. Ready for a sneak peek into my thread haven? Let’s dive in!
My Sewing Thread Organization System:
1. Pegboard Magic:
I once stumbled upon an adorable sewing machine-themed wire spool holder at Hobby Lobby on sale. Not only does it accommodate 30 spools, but it also adds a charming touch to my sewing room’s pegboard. Aesthetically pleasing and functional!
2. Maximized Wall Space:
When space became scarce, I spotted unused real estate behind my door. I set up two June Tailor 120-spool organizers there, spray-painted them white for a cohesive look, and voila! But, let me tell you, maintaining the color gradient is a playful challenge, especially for a perfectionist like me.
Storing Serger Threads:
With a fantastic sale at Wawak, my serger thread collection expanded, urging me to think outside the drawer. After some online scouting, I found the perfect Mainstays wall ledges from Walmart. Each comfortably fits 15 serger threads. With two ledges in place, I’ve a beautiful display of 30 spools. And shoutout to my hubby for helping with the setup!
Embroidery Thread Displays:
1. DIY Wall Rack Glow-Up:
Showcasing my exquisite metallic and variegated threads, I’ve a customized 60-spool wall rack that’s easy on the eyes. Revamping it was a blast, especially with a touch of pink paint and a turquoise cardstock flower. Pure joy!
2. Taming the Threads:
Handling slippery embroidery threads can be tricky. To prevent them from unwinding, I either use spool huggers or cut-to-size thread nets. Their versatility extends to securing various other items too!
3. The Embroidex Stand:
When handling multicolored embroidery projects, my Embroidex thread stand is a lifesaver. With its versatile holding capacity, it’s an invaluable tool for my embroidery work.
4. IKEA’s ALEX Drawers:
Two sets of these drawers house the majority of my embroidery threads. While not perfect due to their limited pull-out range, they still serve as an effective organizational tool.
Legacy Storage Methods:
Once upon a time, I used clear cases and containers passed down from my grandmother. While they served their purpose, evolving my storage game felt refreshing.
Other Considered Options:
If you fancy storing threads in cases, some recommendations include the ArtBin Thread Box, Creative Options Thread Organizer, and the Sulky Universal Slimline Box.
I’m always on the lookout for innovative storage solutions. So, if you’ve got any unique thread organization ideas, I’m all ears!
